- Exposure Control Plan
An exposure control plan must include a detailed schedule of implementation as follows:

- Hepatitis B Vaccination records for all Category I & Category II employees (see previous section)
- Post-exposure procedures
- The employee must stop what s/he is doing and administer first aid
- Immediately report the exposure incident to the employer or Safety Manager
- Post-exposure follow-up:
- Following a report of an exposure incident, the employer shall make immediately available to the exposed employee a confidential medical evaluation and follow-up, including at least the following elements:
- Send employee to Health Care Professional (HCP) with:
- A copy of the BBP Standard.
- The completed Incident report.
- Employee’s Hepatitis B vaccination status.
- Employers Workers compensation Insurance information.
- Follow-up from health care professional (urgent care)
- Evaluates Exposure Incident.
- Arranges for testing of employee and source individual (if agreeable)
- Notifies employee of results of all testing.
- Provides post-exposure prophylaxis
- Following a report of an exposure incident, the employer shall make immediately available to the exposed employee a confidential medical evaluation and follow-up, including at least the following elements:
- Record keeping
- Within seven days of the exposure incident the HCP sends Written Opinion (only) to employer:
- Documentation that employee was informed of evaluation results and the need for further follow-up.
- Whether Hepatitis B vaccine is indicated and if vaccine was received.
- Provides copy of HCP’s Written Opinion to employee and a copy is kept in the employees CONFIDENTIAL medical record.
- Within 14 days of the exposure incident the employer must investigate the exposure incident and complete a “SHARPS INJURY LOG” form.
