  1. Bacteria are one-celled organisms that vary in size, shape, and arrangement. Human beings host a variety of beneficial bacteria that help to fight off disease-producing pathogens. 
  2. Infection occurs when a specific type of bacteria invades an area of the body in which it does not naturally occur.
  3. Bacterial diseases include: Tuberculosis (TB), Legionnaires’ disease, Tetanus, Syphilis, Some sinus infections, Certain mouth abscesses, Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA).
  4. Endospore (spore) is a structure that can develop within a bacterial cell that is resistant to heat and antimicrobial chemicals.
  5. Most bacterial infections can be treated with antibiotics.
