It is with great pleasure and excitement that we announce that our new Executive Director, Shadi Kanaan, will be starting a short transition time with our outgoing Executive Director Candace Roney on November 14. Candace will leave the organization no later than December 9.

Before telling you about Shadi we want to thank the Executive Transition Task Force members who have been working since March with our search firm, Kittleman and Associates, LLC to recruit, vet, and ultimately select our new executive leader. This is probably the most important task any of us could have tackled for our dental society.
Task Force members are Drs. Priya Bakshi, Clifford Marks, Nima Massoomi, BaoKhanh Nguyen, Nick Nguyen, Shakalpi Pendurkar, Kay Rha, Louis Tieu, Julia Townsend, Bexter Yang and co-chairs Nava Fathi and Carol McCutcheon.

Shadi comes to us from a position as Assistant Director, Organizational Effectiveness, Business Development and Project Management with the California Primary Care Association in Sacramento, a role he has filled since 2017. Prior to that, he was Division Lead/Project Manager/Residency Program Coordinator with the Department of Surgery and Internal Medicine at UC Davis. He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology/biology at UC Davis and an MPH from George Washington University. He has also earned a yellow and green LEAN belt certification from the Kaizen Institute in Arizona.
In his previous role, Shadi was responsible for developing, vetting, promoting, and maintaining strategic long-term partnerships and business relationships to create sustainability and diversify the revenue stream at CPCA. He also analyzed and evaluated programs, partnerships, and services to inform organizational goals and long-term strategies, in addition to supporting executive leaders in planning, directing, and implementing organizational change.

Shadi currently lives in Roseville but plans to move to the area with his wife and young daughter in the near future.
We know we all look forward to getting to know Shadi, and you will have that opportunity on December 1 at a holiday party from 7-9 pm at the Society offices. You can register for that event at sccds.org.
