As we continue to grow and evolve as an organization, SCCDS is committed to improving how we connect with our members. Today, we are thrilled to introduce a revamped communications strategy designed to keep you informed, engaged, and connected with your fellow members.
The Transition from Print to Dynamic Communication
For years, The Cutting Edge magazine has been a cornerstone of our communications, providing news, event promotions, and editorial content. However, producing and distributing the magazine has become increasingly challenging, with each issue costing $4,000 to print and $6,000 to mail. Additionally, the rapidly changing environment makes it difficult to keep the content timely and relevant.
Our new communications plan builds on the strengths of The Cutting Edge while embracing more dynamic, cost-effective, and sustainable methods to serve you better.
Key Features of the New Communications Plan
1. Monthly Digital Communications
The Short Cuts email blast is being rebranded as the Cutting Edge Email Edition. Beginning on February 7 and every first Friday of the month thereafter, this monthly email will deliver the latest news, event promotions, and relevant articles directly to your inbox. The digital format ensures timely updates and seamless access to important information.
2. Comprehensive Annual and Fall Specials
We will now publish two key issues each year: the SCCDS Annual and Outlook in March and the SCCDS Fall Special in September. These print and digital publications will provide in-depth updates, retrospectives, and strategic insights, including:
- Highlights from the year’s events
- Strategic updates
- Committee reports
- Financial overviews
- Member achievements and obituaries
3. Streamlined Digital Presence
Our website remains the central hub for all SCCDS communications. Every email, blog post, and social media update will link back to the site, making it easy to find the latest information. We’re also working to build a text messaging system for members who opt-in, as studies show text is the second most preferred communication method after email.
4. Member-driven Social Media Engagement
Social media will play a vital role in amplifying our communications. Expect to see:
- Event announcements and reminders
- Member spotlights
- Interactive posts to foster community engagement
5. Improved Advertising Opportunities
By focusing on fewer, high-impact print publications while streamlining of our digital offerings, we’re creating more value for advertisers. This approach strengthens our financial foundation while enhancing the quality of our content.
6. Cost-Effective and Sustainable Practices
Reducing print frequency helps us save on production and mailing costs while supporting environmentally friendly practices.
7. Enhanced Member Engagement
Our new plan prioritizes opportunities for members to get involved, including:
- Volunteering for initiatives like Give Kids a Smile
- Joining committees
- Participating in member benefit programs
