PART ONE: Do The Children Visiting The Office Know I’m More Fearful Of Them, Than They Are Of Me??! A General Dentist’s Guide To Pediatric Dentistry

“The professional literature suggests a reluctance of the general dental community to care for children, particularly the very young who would most benefit from a dental home.”(Pediatr Dent 2018;40(2):93-7) Research has shown that many general dentists are unequipped to care for the needs of the youngest patients of their offices. Oftentimes, predoctoral studies do not inform dentists with the tools necessary to care for even basic needs of children. If you are a general dentist looking to answer the call from adults in your practice who desire you to extend care to their children, this course will take your practice to a whole new level and eliminate your overwhelm before the children are in your chair.

Course Outline: How to conduct a first dental visit. Tips to interact better with children. When to refer to a pediatric dentist. How to answer most common questions: Thumbsucking/Pacifier Use Tooth Grinding Crooked Teeth – When to intervene Course

Objectives: -Change the thinking of children in the dental practice by addressing fears and finding solutions -Learn to interact with children in a way that makes you less stressed and positions you as the authority -Learn when to refer to a pediatric dentist -Address parents’ questions in a comprehensive way and become on of the leaders in your community.

PART TWO: What The Heck is Airway Dentistry And Why Is Everyone Obsessed with Talking About It? Introduction To Airway Dentistry

In 2017, the ADA released a policy statement on The Role of Dentistry in the Treatment of Sleep-Related Breathing Disorders. Many providers are unaware of the statement, while others are worried about which classes they need to take to expand their knowledge on the subject. If you are a general dentist looking to learn more about what airway dentistry is so you can screen patients within your practice, this course will provide an introduction to the knowledge you need to keep up with requests from patients regarding sleep and breathing challenges at night.

Course Outline: 2017 ADA Policy Statement review History of Growth and Development Changes Sleep Disordered Breathing: Mouth Breathing to Sleep Apnea Why did this become so popular How to screen within your office

Course Objectives: -Expand knowledge about sleep related breathing disorders and the dentist’s role in screening, diagnosis and treatment -Learn when to refer to a specialist -Address patient’s basic questions and know additional resources about airway dentistry

Speaker:

Dr. Jasmine Elmore

After practicing pediatric dentistry at the highest level, Dr. Elmore had a career transition inspired by debilitating shoulder pain and a visit to a very special Physical Therapist. Where other PTs failed to provide relief of her symptoms, a friend’s referral led her to someone with a deep understanding of chronic pain, stress, poor sleep, and whole-body connection.

Once she began to speak about the connection between teeth, breathing, and shoulder health, Dr. Elmore completely dove headfirst into new learning. She completed the Airway Mini Residency and advanced training in breathing science, orofacial myology, postural restoration, craniomandibular and neuromuscular dysfunction, and growth & development.

She has studied with osteopaths, PTs, ENTs, airway dentists, sleep physicians, and other allied health professionals to better understand the whole body. As an apprentice of Dr Barry Raphael, a leading holistic orthodontist in Clifton, New Jersey, she met her newest mentor.

Dr Joe Da Cruz, a functional dentist in Australia, created an appliance called the SOMA that he has successfully used for decades to treat TMD, sleep issues, poor posture, neurological disorders, headaches, and a host of other issues. As the primary U.S. provider for the SOMA appliance, Dr. Elmore has a new practice that focuses on stress reduction, cranial balance, and resolving Dental Distress Syndrome (as defined by Dr AC Fonder).

Dr Jasmine Elmore is a board-certified pediatric dentist, a Certified Specialist in Orofacial Myology, neuro-cranio-myofunctional dental specialist and is one of a few people in the world to have a Professional Degree in the Science of Breathing Behavior.
