We all have that moment…when we look at the schedule and see the name of the kid who evades our behavior guidance skills. Why does it seem harder to manage the behavior of the contemporary child? In this presentation, Dr. Clarice Law will discuss some societal factors that have influenced parenting, and the effects on child behavior. We’ll talk about some frameworks for understanding the roots of child behavior and discuss some strategies that can influence behavior in the dental office.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion, the participant shall be able to:
 Summarize classifications of child behavior
 Distinguish between basic and advanced behavior guidance techniques
The participant will have a thorough understanding of:
 The societal factors that have influenced parenting
 The role of brain development on behavior

 Describe alternative strategies for managing child behavior

Biography:
Clarice Law, DMD, MS is a Health Sciences Clinical Professor in the Sections of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, UCLA School of Dentistry. Dr. Law received her DMD from Harvard School of Dental Medicine and completed specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics at UCLA. She teaches both disciplines to dental students and residents. Her research interests are in parental and social influences on child behavior. Dr. Law is married to filmmaker Ian Eyre and has two children who have influenced both her orthodontic and behavior guidance practices immensely.
