2/8/18 A Potpourri of Pediatric Updates & Refreshers

Expired

The information around best practices in the care of pediatric patients changes almost as quickly as our kids themselves!  We will spend an evening reviewing some of these updates and recommendations.  We will also discuss a few refreshers about common mistakes made by well-meaning general practitioners, with some better alternatives.

Some of the questions that I hope to be able to answer for you include:

  • Where is the best place to turn for up-to-date information and recommendations?
  • What is the latest information about first dental visits?
  • Are there new tools to address early childhood caries when I see it?
  • How can I improve my pediatric patients’ oral health proactively?

Dr. A. Jeffrey Wood began his career at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in 1999, after more than 12 years as a pediatric dentistry faculty member at the Medical College of Virginia.

During his career, Wood received numerous honors and accolades, including the Eberhardt Teacher-Scholar Award from the University of the Pacific for outstanding teaching and scholarship and the American Dental Association’s Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Mentoring of Dental Students Interested in Academic Careers.

Active in organized pediatric dentistry, Wood is currently president and a member of the Board of Directors of the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry and past president of the Western Society of Pediatric Dentistry. Wood is a fellow of the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.

In addition to his responsibilities at the Dugoni School, Wood holds an adjunct faculty appointment at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health where he designed and presented the new dental school’s pediatric dentistry curriculum in January of 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Wood earned his doctor of dental surgery degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1984, where he subsequently received his certificate in pediatric dentistry. Wood maintained a faculty dental practice at the Medical College of Virginia from 1987 to 1999, while also serving as the pediatric dentist on the Commonwealth of Virginia Facial Reconstruction Team.
